Custom wardrobe vs IKEA: which is worth it?
A fair look at fit, storage, materials and cost, so you can decide what suits your home.
In short
A flat-pack wardrobe from IKEA costs less upfront and suits renters or temporary setups. A custom built-in wardrobe costs more but runs floor to ceiling and wall to wall, fits uneven walls and ceilings, and uses plywood that copes better with Singapore humidity. For homeowners planning to stay several years, a custom wardrobe usually gives more storage and lasts longer.
How they compare
Fit
Flat-pack units come in fixed sizes and leave gaps at the sides and top. A custom wardrobe fills the wall and reaches the ceiling.
Storage
A full-height custom wardrobe adds a top compartment, often giving noticeably more storage on the same wall.
Materials
Many flat-pack carcasses use particleboard. Our carcass is plywood, which holds screws better in humid conditions.
Cost and effort
Flat-pack is cheaper but you assemble it or pay for assembly. Ours start from S$340 per foot run with delivery and installation included.
